Alleppey was born with its own richness in 16th century. It remained as a landmark of heritage existing for about more than 200 years. Alappuzha was an oldest planned town. It was renowned as a port by Raja Kesava Das. The coir industry arised as the largest cottage industry flourished Alappuzha. Moreover the natural port of Alleppey enabled globalised coir industry. It attracted foreign companies which were situated on the banks of Canals constructed especially for commercial purpose. Alappuzha grew into a cosmopolitan town as so many cultures mingled here among the migrants from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and other states.
